Supervision and continuing professional development

The professional learning and oversight that support safe, effective CBT practice.

Last reviewed: 10 September 2026

BABCP accreditation includes ongoing responsibilities for clinical supervision, professional development, ethical practice and evidence of continued competence. These are built into how Calm Breathing Therapies operates.

1. Clinical supervision

I undertake regular CBT clinical supervision in line with current BABCP requirements and increase consultation when clinical complexity, risk or ethical questions require it. Supervision considers formulation, intervention, therapeutic process, diversity, risk and professional decision-making.

2. Confidentiality in supervision

Clinical material is anonymised or minimised wherever possible. Supervisory records focus on professional reflection and action while protecting client confidentiality. Information may be more specific where this is necessary to address safety or a legal duty.

3. Continuing professional development

I maintain a planned programme of CPD relevant to my role and caseload. This includes evidence-based CBT models, clinical skills, ethics, safeguarding, equality and diversity, information governance and developments in remote practice.

4. Reflection and review

Learning is recorded and reflected upon, including how it changes clinical work. Client feedback, outcome monitoring, supervision and professional guidance all contribute to reviewing and improving the service.
