We make decisions together
Your experience and goals guide the work. We’ll agree where to start and check in as we go.
I’m Shavaiz Khan, the person behind Calm Breathing Therapies. I offer warm, practical online CBT to people aged 16 and over across the UK.
Ask about a free first callYou might be spending hours worrying, replaying conversations or avoiding things because of how anxious they make you feel. Perhaps you’ve been feeling low, or struggling with experiences that are difficult to move on from. You don’t need to know exactly what is wrong or have the right words to get in touch.
My approach is warm, straightforward and practical. I’ll take time to understand what life is like for you, what you’ve already tried and what you would like to change. Being listened to matters, and so does understanding how therapy could help.
We’ll explore what keeps the difficulties going and find manageable ways to respond differently. That might mean understanding panic attacks, building confidence in situations you’ve been avoiding, or changing how you respond to thoughts that keep pulling you into worry.
You’ll have a say in how we work. I’ll explain what we’re doing and why, and I welcome questions and honest feedback. If a step feels difficult, we’ll talk it through and agree how to approach it together.

I work with a range of difficulties, with particular experience in anxiety, panic, social anxiety and phobias. Often these overlap with low mood, stress or other challenges, so we look at the whole picture rather than trying to fit you into one label.
Within my phobia work, I have particular experience with needle phobias and arachnophobia (fear of spiders). I have supported several clients to overcome these fears by the end of treatment. Your starting point and goals will be your own, and we’ll agree the steps together.
Alongside my private practice, I work as a Psychological Therapist in an NHS First Response service, supporting people experiencing significant distress and mental health crises. This experience informs the calm, compassionate approach I bring to my work.
I’m a BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and hold a postgraduate diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy. Regular clinical supervision and ongoing training help me reflect on my work and develop the care I provide.

You can ask about any part of therapy. I’ll explain the approach in everyday language.

You can talk about things you feel embarrassed, unsure or stuck about, without being judged.

We’ll choose manageable things to try between appointments and learn from how they go.
Your culture, faith, family and identity matter. I have particular experience supporting Muslim and South Asian clients, and I welcome people from all backgrounds. I’ll ask what matters to you and how you would like this understood within therapy.

Choosing a therapist is personal. A free 5–10 minute conversation gives you a chance to ask questions, tell me a little about what you need and decide whether you would like to take things further.
